Discover the history of the Friary

Heritage

Ennis Friary, established in Clare in the 13th century, was once renowned across Europe as a centre of learning. Today, visitors can view the friary’s famous medieval sculptures and there are regular guided tours exploring the site’s history, archaeology and architecture. The building contains an exceptional wealth of 15th- and 16th-century sculptures carved in the local hard limestone.
